Thinking about renting a campervan to explore New Zealand? I personally think this is a FANTASTIC idea!

I’ve embarked on this same adventure myself and learned some valuable lessons while doing so. One of the biggest was choosing the right rental company – one that doesn’t break the budget and gives all the comforts you’ll need!

JUCY Campervans is one of the most popular options in the country. But do they live up to the hype? After renting with JUCY myself, I can say yes—and even better, I’ve secured a 10% OFF discount code for my readers, so you don’t have to overspend on your campervan rental. Just enter code DTRAVEL10 at checkout for 10% OFF select dates, or use DTRAVEL25 for 5% OFF any dates.

I’ll be honest — renting a campervan can be expensive! That’s why I’ve secured an awesome discount for my readers. I’ve managed to secure a massive 10% OFF — partly by giving up most of the commission I’d normally earn. Because let’s face it, life’s getting expensive, and I’d much rather pass the savings on to you!

Here’s how the promo code works:

Simply head to JUCY’s website, choose your perfect campervan, and enter DTRAVEL10 at checkout to get 10% OFF your base rental. This offer is valid on bookings made through 30 June 30, 2026, for travel between May 1 and June 30, 2026, and requires a minimum hire period of 5 days. Bonus: the code also works with Star RV rentals!

This is an awesome deal you don’t want to miss out on. And if your travel dates don’t line up for 10% off, you can always use my discount code DTRAVEL25 for 5% OFF any travel dates.

Below, I’ll share the pros and cons of JUCY, break down the different campervan options, and give my honest take on the experience. By the end, you’ll be ready to grab this deal, hit ā€œbook,ā€ and start packing for your adventure!

Pros of JUCY Campervans

And lots of space to hang out!

1. Lots of pick-up and drop-off locations

It’s really easy to pick up or drop off your JUCY campervan, as they have locations in Auckland, Christchurch, and Queenstown. This is super convenient for me, as Queenstown is my hometown! You’ll likely be flying in and out of one of these major cities anyway, so you can simply start and end your road trip from one of these three locations.

I would still consider JUCY as the top campervan rental company in each of the three major cities. But if you are curious about location-specific details, Iā€˜ve got you covered. Read my guide to renting a campervan in Auckland if you’re embarking on a North Island road trip. But if you’re hitting the South Island, I have resources about campervan rental in Christchurch and also in Queenstown!

2. A large inventory of campervans

As one of the largest campervan rental companies in the country, JUCY has a huge fleet! This is great because you don’t have to book out your campervan months and months before your trip. You could probably book one for tomorrow! Smaller companies have less inventory and therefore sell out further in advance.

So if you’re planning a bit last-minute or like to have variety, JUCY is awesome for that!

3. Big brand with great service

One of the biggest perks of renting with JUCY is their awesome customer service. Sometimes, bigger companies are better because they have more resources to help their customers. If you have an issue with your van while out exploring, JUCY offers same-day roadside assistance and will cover the cost! What service!

They’ve always been super friendly and helpful to work with. I feel secure going out into the middle of nowhere with one of these bad boys!

4. Lower price than comparable vans in NZ

JUCY is consistently cheaper than other companies out there. Because they are a larger organization, they are able to offer lower prices, and you’re still getting that amazing JUCY service. This is one of the many reasons they are well-loved!

Plus, when you use my JUCY promo code (DTRAVEL10), you’ll be saving even more money. If you’re like me and like to make your travel budget stretch as far as it can go, this deal is not to be missed.

Hot Tip: I use Motorhome Republic to compare the prices of various campervan rental companies in NZ. Their booking system is easy to use and allows you to compare different models, companies, prices, and features in one easy place.

5. Campervans are easy to drive

If you’re worried about driving a big van down windy roads – I’ve been there too! After doing it myself, I’m happy to report that it’s much easier than it seems. All of JUCY’s campervans are automatic and drive very smoothly. I was relieved to learn they are all automatic because while I can drive a manual, I prefer the ease of an automatic!

While the campervans are certainly bigger than your average car, they don’t feel gigantic. So I quickly adjusted to driving a larger vehicle than I was used to.

6. Four types of campervans are available

A JUCY campervan isn’t one size fits all. They actually have four different styles, so depending on your comfort level and the number of people you’re traveling with, they have a van for you!

  • The Crib: Cozy and quaint option for two people – the best budget van!
  • The Chaser: Fits three people and is equipped with a toilet and shower.
  • The Cruiser: The most spacious option, suitable for four people with a kitchen, shower, and toilet.
  • The Condo: Great for families – a self-contained campervan with a large kitchen.

Note: JUCYs are great for up to 4, but if you’re looking for something even larger, consider renting a motorhome in New Zealand instead.

7. I get discounts

I’ve mentioned it a few times already – but who would say no to a JUCY campervan promo code!? I told you the JUCY customer service was top-notch, so they kindly gave 10% OFF select campervan bookings to my readers and me for bookings made through June 30, 2026, for travel between May 1 and June 30, 2026 (minimum 5-day hire)!

Just use the code DTRAVEL10 at checkout! And if you’re booking outside those dates, you can still use the discount code DTRAVEL25 for 5% OFF anytime!

Need more space? Both discount codes also apply to Star RV!

Cons of JUCY Campervans

That green stands out!

I may not be a master chef, but I make some delicious camp meals!

1. Basic campervan fitout

Even the most luxurious JUCY campervan is still pretty barebones. They provide you with all the basics you’ll need, but not much past that! I think this is how they can keep their costs so low, but you won’t have all the amenities that you would with more luxurious motorhomes. So either pack extra gear or be ready to go without some of the comforts for a few days! If you enjoy camping and being outside for most of the time like I do, this won’t be an issue.

2. Vans are green

This obviously isn’t the biggest deal, but I don’t love JUCY’s bright green color on every van. It feels like a sign on my back saying ā€œI’m a tourist!ā€, which is true – but not something I necessarily like to flaunt. On the flip side, if you see other JUCY green vans while on the road, they become instant friends and it’s really easy to spot in a parking lot! It’s safe to say that I will not be painting my own van bright green if I ever purchase one.

3. Extras cost more

Because of JUCY’s barebones features, they offer equipment rentals at an extra charge. But, I feel like they are pretty expensive! They charge$18 NZD per day for camping chairs and $25 NZD per day for a camping table. That adds up quickly! If you want some of the big extras like roof racks or ski racks, those are also an extra charge – but that’s pretty normal for most companies.

I will note that the vans come with complimentary camping chairs and a table, and you also get laundry exchange as part of their Stress-Free insurance package. So you’re not totally without!

Features of JUCY Campervans

The JUCY Chaser

The Crib

If you’re looking for the most budget option – the JUCY Crib is your best bet! It cozily fits two people and has a small kitchen in the trunk with a sink and a 25-liter fresh water tank. Inside, there are seats that can fold into a bed, or be set up into a table and bench. Best of all, it’s the size of a minivan, so you can go pretty much anywhere without any issues.

The Chaser

While the 2-person Crib is cozy, I chose to rent the JUCY Chaser for my partner and me! It’s a 3-berth caravan, which gave us just a bit more room. It’s great for freedom camping, as it has a toilet and shower, and has a bigger fridge and water tank.

While the Chaser is more expensive than the Crib, I thought it was well worth the money because it was way more comfortable. Especially if you’re planning a long road trip and are going to areas that are off the beaten path!

The Condo

The JUCY Condo is a great option for families, as it sleeps four people! It’s also the only JUCY van that can fit a child seat or baby capsule. You’ll also find two double beds and a larger kitchen with an 80-liter fridge – enough room to feed four people!

The Cruiser

The Cruiser is JUCY’s latest model – and it ticks all the boxes! This is a great option for friends who are traveling together because they are the most spacious. There is even a hot water system and a kitchen with a microwave, how luxurious! This is definitely geared toward those who like a little bit of comfort rather than roughing it.

Would I rent from JUCY Campervans again?

Jucy chaser campervan by the ocean in New Zealand
Yes!

100% yes! I have actually rented from JUCY a few times, and I would love to do it again. They made road-tripping around the South Island super easy. I personally love their basic build-out because I want to be outside as much as possible.

Plus, with affordable rates and the discount from my JUCY promo code – what’s not to love? Head to JUCY’s website here to secure your discount.

I’ve also enjoyed my time with Mad Campers, but JUCY has more options and better availability, so it’s easy to book. I break down all the comparisons in my blog about the most trusted campervan rental companies in NZ. But if I had to pick one clear winner – it’d be JUCY!
